Theatre in Zimbabwe is soaring to great heights, as local productions are tapping into the global performance arts arena. One such production is Lamentations @12, written by Getrude Vimbayi Munhamo and directed by Daves Guzha which will be showcased at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The Festival happens every August for three weeks in the city of Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital. It welcomes ‘an explosion of creative energy from around the globe’ encompassing genres such as theatre, comedy, dance, circus, cabaret, children's shows, musicals, opera, music, spoken word, exhibitions and events.
The play Lamentations @ 12 has toured locally and in the continent; the Fringe presents a great opportunity for Zimbabwean theatre sector to strongly register its presence on the global arena and leave a mark. The story explores the ‘hardships endured by girls during times of conflicts; it is an emotionally intense and engaging piece of work about the loss of innocence. It is positioned through four epochs (1895-2015)’. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe will run from the 2nd to the 28th of August 2017.
