OyOsMusic female artist of the week

Our OyOsMusic female artist of the week is award-winning actress-cum-director Eunice Ratidzo Tava. She is one of the few inspirational women who have made significant strides in advancing the Zimbabwean drama and theatre industry, both locally and internationally.

Tava has been in the theatre and television industry for 15 years as an actress. Over those years Eunice comments she has faced a lot of resistance from her family who equated the arts to a low life profession. She has also faced what she calls the ‘pull me down syndrome’ from both male and female counterparts in the arts sector but her resilience has pulled her through. Tava is a product of Young Vic Directing Mentorship Programme and ANY Nhimbe Trusts Female Directors Training workshop. She has been nominated for several awards including woman of the decade Ndichirimupenyu award in 2011 and several best actress for both television and theatre plays.

To date she has acquired three awards for theatre and a National Arts Merit Award (2010) directing award for the play Election day. Eunice has featured in over 25 plays and has also staged and toured Scandinavian countries such as Sweden, Norway and Denmark. She has also staged plays in different African countries and in England. Eunice has managed to rise beyond criticism and proved that Women can do it. She has acted in several plays which include Ganyau express and Heaven’s Diary written by Daniel Maphosa. She has also directed plays such as The past is for the future and Diamonds in his son’s grave written by Stephen Chifunyise. She is indeed a woman of note in the slowly growing local arts industry.
