Lameck and Mai Titi, in love

Lameck and Mai Titi have jointly fallen in love with the recently launched local music buying and selling platform, OyOs. ‘Comedian’ cum activist, Lameck Chimoka Makwiramiti who gained popularity from his viral video rebuking condoned social injustices towards his daughter has partnered with Zimhosts.com to create a promotional video marketing the OyOs brand. Not to be outdone is the rising female comedian Mai Titi of the “For the why” fame, who also has created a hilarious video skit to market the product.  The two comedians, who are currently trending in the comedy circles in Harare, fell in love with the OyOs initiative hence decided to partner with it.

Mai Titi, real name Felistas Maruta, an avid comedian through her humorous skits on social media platforms, said she was very passionate about local music. She is therefore chuffed by the fact that Zimbabwean musicians now have their own online music store where they can sell their music to their fans without any hustles. On the other hand, endorsing the OyOs brand, Lameck said: “OyOs is playing a critical role in advancing the interests of musicians through market tested innovations that will go a long way in curbing piracy”. He further said that he was excited to work with OyOs in helping local arts to advance. “I am happy to be working with them in promoting the development of local arts in a way that benefits artists”, he said.

Lameck has hit a purple patch with many organisations and individuals seeking his services to market their brands. Such organisations include leading clothes shop Jan Jam, Bright Claims Management, Tinoda Trust’s Donate a shoe campaign, as well as other humanitarian aid players seeking to empower disadvantaged women and children. In his OyOs video clip, he discourages people from pirating music and encourages all Zimbabweans to start having that culture of supporting their own artists by actually buying their music on platforms such as the OyOs Music store. “To those that have been working against the aspirations of our artists and the general growth of the arts industry through piracy, I am giving them 48 hours stop with that rot otherwise I will bring Vietnam to their doorsteps. In the same vein, I am giving music fans 48 hours to download the android app on Google app store otherwise there won’t be any peace”, the fast rising comedian says.

Mai Titi, one of the very few women who have managed to successfully penetrate the male dominated comedy profession in Zimbabwe, has featured in several productions including Bustop TV and Skimbo’s Ziso Regondo. She also has a facebook page called Mai T’s Diaries where she continues to deliver a refreshing kind of comedy centered particularly on the daily issues concerning women. In relation to OyOs, she notes that it encourages people to place value on an arts product by encouraging people to buy songs at very affordable prices rather than pirate them. In this way the artists can be able to grow professionally and develop their art. This remark was influenced by the realization that local artists have suffered tremendously due to piracy because they fail to realise any financial returns from all their products. She further postulates that ‘As a nation it’s sad to note that we are sitting on a gold mine hidden in the arts industry, to not realise that arts are an economically aggregating force that could make an amerce contribution… arts that has power to generate foreign currency while putting the nation on the global map’. It is on this note that in her OyOs video clip, she disregards piracy and encourages people to ‘buy’ their preferred local music online wherever they are.
