Jesesi Mungoshi receives her Lifetime Achievement Award at GZU Film premiere of Solo na Mutsai |
Seasoned local film and television actress, Jesesi Mungoshi was recently honored with a lifetime achievement award at the recently ended Great Zimbabwe Premiere of film Solo na Mutsai at Charles Austin Theatre, in Masvingo.
Mungoshi rose to stardom after her impressive performance in popular Zimbabwean film Neria (1993) where she played the main character of Neria. The film told the story of a Zimbabwean widow (Jesesi Mungoshi) who fell prey to her greedy brother-in-law (Dominic Kanaventi) who took her children and belongings. The story unfolded in an emotional and touching way, well played out by Mungoshi. She also contributed remarkably in the Zimbabwean film industry with roles in television productions such as Inongove Njake Njake in 1984. To date her latest role has been in Muzita rababa, a popular television series which landed her an award for best actress at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) this year.
Mungoshi is an epitome of courageous, resilient women who have stood the test of time in a male dominated local film industry hence the Lifetime achievement award was long overdue and well-deserved.
